Korn guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer addressed the increasingly smaller commercial profile of rock and dwindling album sales, saying that “it comes in waves.”

In recent years, hip-hop has surpassed rock as the most popular genre in the US, consistently standing out as the largest genre in terms of total consumption, including album sales and equivalent streaming numbers.

Munky, who is promoting Korn's new album, Requiem , spoke about the decline in rock's popularity in a new interview with Australia's Wall Of Sound

“Personally, I feel like it doesn’t matter, because if it’s good and authentic, they come running. Pop music has evolved into something so synthetic, it will reach a point where it’s not so real, if people want real instruments and someone who is actually singing live, that whole thing will come back because there will be a need for it,” he said. “And it comes in waves. And that’s okay, because we’re not in this for fame, we’re in this for the fans.”

Requiem was released on February 4th. The band celebrated the LP's arrival with a special album launch event last Thursday, the 3rd, at the Hollywood United Methodist Church in Los Angeles, California.
