KK Downing is preparing to release the debut album of his band KK's Priest on August 20th. The name chosen by Downing has caused much controversy as it is clearly derived from his previous band, Judas Priest .
In a recent interview with Rock Hard Greece , Downing revealed that Judas Priest had made a move regarding the name. “Their lawyers sent a letter to my record label threatening legal action if I kept the name KK's Priest. So far nothing has happened. I think they made the threat, but decided not to follow through,” says KK Downing.
When asked about the inspiration behind the name, Downing replied: “I’ve been a Priest since 1968. I’ve wanted to be a Priest since then. I’ve been through that journey, so I believe I have the right to continue as a Priest. Some of the guys who are in [Judas] Priest now I haven’t even met and they’re playing my songs, and that’s fine, but if they have the right to be a Priest, then so do I.”
In another recent interview, KK Downing had already stated that he had the right to use the name "Priest," in addition to giving a different version of his departure from Judas Priest.
