Book about KK Downing and Judas Priest to be released in September
Heavy Duty: Days and Nights in Judas Priest is a book co-written by journalist Mark Eglinton, and it's a biography of former Judas Priest guitarist KK Downing.
The quote on the book's back cover reads: “I don’t remember exactly when the thought entered my head, but I remember thinking on more than a few occasions: ‘You know, I’m really not sure about our image’…Looking back, I think Judas Priest has had an identity crisis from the very beginning. There’s always been a question mark over the band’s look. To me, it never seemed to say anything – and in the early days of our career, I suppose I actually saw that as a good thing.”.
“In Heavy Duty, the guitarist discusses complex personality conflicts, business problems, the acrimonious relationship with the heavy metal band Iron Maiden , as well as how Judas Priest found themselves at the epicenter of a storm of paternal indignation that hit heavy metal in the 80s. He also describes his role in cementing the band's trademark leather and studs that would not only become synonymous with the entire genre, but also give singer Rob Halford a viable outlet to express his sexuality,” says the book's synopsis.
Downing left Judas Priest in 2011 and was replaced by Richie Faulkner . The book will be released in September.
