KK 's Priest recently released their debut album, Sermons Of The Sinner . The band's original lineup features three former members of Judas Priest : KK Downing , Tim “Ripper” Owens , and Les Binks . Les Binks, however, did not participate in the album's recording due to a wrist fracture . The drummer was replaced by Sean Elg .
During an appearance on The Wikimetal Happy Hour , KK Downing spoke with Nando Machado about his friend's absence and assured him that he is doing well and intends to play some songs live with KK's Priest.
“Les wasn’t going to be able to spend six or seven hours a day in the studio playing drums, you know?” Downing says. “He’s fine, but after a while he needs to rest [his wrist]. He can play, but he didn’t want to fatigue himself to the point where he couldn’t play. He said it would be a test of endurance and, obviously, there’s a lot of energy in certain parts of the album.”
KK Downing also pointed out that playing drums is much more physically demanding than any other instrument and showed solidarity with his bandmate. “Les and I are 70 years old,” he says. “We can drink a lot of beer, we have no problem lifting a few cans [laughs], but sometimes we need to take it easy. It’s not so bad for me, I can strum [a guitar] with my fingers, but the drums are different.”
