KISS: Find out how Paul Stanley chose the band's name

After almost half a century, the word immortalized one of the greatest names in international hard rock

In its early days, in 1972, KISS began to take shape under the name Wicked Lester . It wasn't until the following year that the band adopted the name that has resonated for almost half a century as one of the most influential in the hard rock genre. But why KISS?

According to an article published by Blabbermouth on Monday, the 22nd, vocalist Paul Stanley gave an interview to the Australian program The Project in which he explained the choice of the word to name the band. “I thought it was something that would sound familiar no matter where you were in the world. It was the kind of name where, with a word like that, you'd be like, 'Oh, I've heard of KISS',” he said.

Stanley went on to say that kiss " is also a word that is "open to interpretation." "It's something that has so many meanings – a passionate kiss, a kiss of death, and so on." And he added, "I think it worked, right? We've been here for what? 48 years, something like that. But who's counting?"

In 2019, KISS began their farewell tour, End Of The Road . The extensive world tour was scheduled to end on July 17, 2021, in New York City, but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The dates for the shows in Brazil were rescheduled for October , but are likely to be adjusted again due to the severity of the situation in the country.
