In an interview with Ultimate Classic Rock , Paul Stanley revealed some controversial details involving the behind-the-scenes of the documentary Biography: KISStory , which will be shown in two parts on June 27th and 28th on the A&E .

Stanley commented on the absence of Peter Criss and Ace Frehley from the project, stating that the material used in the film comes from archival interviews because both wanted to be paid and receive final editing credits for their participation in the feature. As the band's response was negative, Criss denied permission for the use of the song "Beth" in the documentary, a song he co-wrote.

In his own defense, Paul Stanley stated that several attempts were made “in all different ways” to try and convince the duo to participate in the project. “But this idea of end credits and money and this and that… The answer was, ‘No, your involvement doesn’t guarantee that.’ And who loses out in a situation like that? They do,” he said.

In a September 2020 interview with SiriusXM , Ace Frehley had already stated that he refused the offer made by KISS for financial reasons (transcription via Blabbermouth ). “They offered me a symbolic amount to participate in the documentary and I refused. I thought the amount was shameful because I know how much money they're going to make from it. So, either we split the fortune or c'est la vie ,” the musician said. “Unfortunately, I decided that the money they offered me doesn't even come close to what I deserved, so I refused. The footage you'll see of me in this documentary will all be old footage.”
