Hammett recalls the launch

In an interview with the Chilean website Humonegro.com, Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett spoke again about the band's controversial album in collaboration with Lou Reed, "Lulu." Released in 2011, the album was the target of criticism from a large part of the band's fanbase.

“I think it’s one of the best things we’ve ever done. I mean, you can call it a Metallica album, but it’s not really a Metallica album. I think that’s part of the reason why it was so misinterpreted. People thought it was going to be a heavy metal album with Lou Reed, but no, it was a collaboration.”.

It was the union of two musical entities, united to create something new and unique. And the fact that it turned out so unique was a great success. I love the album. I still listen to it. And I miss Lou; it's a shame he's no longer with us. But looking back now, I think it was one of the most important albums I've ever made in my life. That's how I feel.”.
