Kirk Hammett , guitarist for Metallica , revealed in a Metal Hammer that he didn't feel guilty about using riffs originally written for his former band, Exodus , in his current band.
Hammett, who, along with Lars Ulrich , discussed the tracks on the album Ride The Lightning , commented that the song "Trapped Under Ice" contains a riff that was originally written for the Exodus song "Impaler," which ended up appearing on the band's 2004 album, Tempo of the Damned .
The guitarist reveals that he didn't feel guilty about the act, after all, the riffs came from parts of the music he created. However, he revealed that he felt guilty about leaving the band he had founded in high school, even though he stated that he considers playing in Metallica his "calling," and that he feels much more comfortable in his current band.
“I’ve known Tom Hunting [Exodus drummer] since I was 16, and I’ve known Gary Holt [Exodus guitarist] since I was 17. We’ve all been close since then, but there was a lot of guilt for a while. A bit of remorse,” said Hammett.
