Kirk Hammett launches a $20,000 Gibson guitar; meet the Greeny.

The instrument recreates the 1959 model previously used by Peter Green and Gary Moore.

Kirk Hammett , in partnership with the manufacturer Gibson, announced the release of a replica of the iconic Greeny Les Paul guitar , which costs around $20,000. The price is surprising, since it recreates the aging and wear of the 1959 model just as well.

“I’m honored and grateful to have this opportunity with Gibson. Being able to share the magic that Greeny has means a lot to me. It’s exciting to know that anyone can experience a little of that magic. I really think these models are as inspiring as the original, and I hope you all think so too!”, said the Metallica (via NME ).

The original guitar has previously been owned by Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac and Gary Moore of Thin Lizzy .

The new version features an Indian rosewood fretboard, figured maple , humbucker , Sperzel tuners, and a nylon nut. The instrument also comes with a pink and brown case with five latches.

The Greeny Les Paul will be available for purchase on the manufacturer's official website starting in April. A more affordable standard

Gibson Brands president Cesar Gueikian commented on the collaboration: “Kirk Hammett has been inspiring musicians for decades. For the last 10 years, he has incorporated the Greeny sound into everything he does since becoming the guardian [of the model], making it a staple of Metallica's sound on records and stages around the world.”
