In 2021, Metallica celebrates 40 years on the road, and even with ten studio albums, including the excellent Black Album , Kirk Hammett the band has not yet reached its peak.

Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo recently discussed plans for Metallica's 40th anniversary, and the guitarist marveled at how quickly time has passed (transcription via Blabbermouth ).

“The most incredible thing right now is that I still feel like we haven’t peaked yet. We’re still hungry, we still want to make music, we still care about music and about each other. I don’t see any sign of us slowing down, man, because we have things we want to do,” he stated.

And apparently they really do. In November, drummer Lars Ulrich stated that the band is working on a new studio album, and Metallica has currently been busy with a series of releases to promote the 30th anniversary special edition Black Album . It seems that 40 years is just the beginning.
