Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett spoke about the general public reaction to the song the band released last week, Hardwired . Check out his response:

I'm getting a lot of messages from friends saying 'great song, amazing song'. But as soon as I turn on my computer I think to myself 'Should I see what people are saying?' or 'Should I read comments on websites?'.
"At the time I tell myself, 'Don't do that.' Because it only makes me angry first, then frustrated, then confused, and then I try to think that it doesn't mean anything and it's all nonsense, and I wonder why I wasted my time. So, having said that, I know there's a lot of excitement and I'm very grateful that the song has been well received.".
