"It was a great show."
In an interview with Rolling Stone , Kirk Hammett and Lars Ulrich talked about the last show Metallica played with Cliff Burton.
The recording of the show is included in the deluxe version of Master Of Puppets from 1986 , which was released on November 10th.
Looking back on the show, Lars says: “We played in Stockholm [capital of Sweden] and it went incredibly well. We played an extra song that wasn't on the setlist, which is rare, but it was really good. There was a great energy.”
Hammett goes on to say that this show was very important because it was when James Hetfield returned to playing guitar after suffering a skateboarding accident. “I remember the show was really good and when we left the stage, we were very positive and feeling good because James was back and we were going to get back to being who we were. And then the accident happened and it literally felt like we were going into a very deep black hole.”
“I remember when we were going to the bus and the fans started running towards us. Then Cliff said, 'Look at them. They look like zombies!' and he loved zombies. We laughed a lot and went to play cards. We spent a lot of time on the bus and then… everyone knows what happened.”
Cliff Burton died in a bus accident on September 27, 1986, during the European tour for Damage Inc. Learn more about the bassist's story.
