The Kinks: After 22 years, band announces reunion and new album

Ray Davies says the band is preparing a new album and a tour

Ray Davies lead singer and frontman of the British band The Kinks , has announced plans to return to recording and touring with the remaining members of the group, Dave Davies (guitar) and Mick Avory (drums), after 22 years.

In an interview with British broadcaster Channel 4 , Davies revealed that he has returned to rehearsing in the studio with his brother Dave and Avory, and they have decided to record a new Kinks album.

“The problem is that the other two members, my brother and Mick, never got along very well. But I made it work in the studio and that fired me up, I made them play with energy,” the musician said. He also said that before the split in 1996, he had prepared several tracks for a future project with the group and that he considers now to be an “appropriate time” to record them.

Speaking about the reason behind the reunion, Davies confessed that the Rolling Stones' last tour inspired him to get back together with his former bandmates. "It's inspiring to see how they do it," he said.

In 2015, the brothers had already excited fans by reuniting to play "You Really Got Me" at Assembly Hall in London during one of Dave's shows. Since then, rumors about a reunion have spread. All this despite the constant fights between the brothers that resulted in public insults. Dave has called Ray a narcissistic vampire who "sucks my ideas, emotions and creativity. It's toxic for me to be around him.".
