Kim Shattuck , founder and vocalist of the band Muffs , died last Wednesday, the 2nd, at the age of 56. A representative of the group confirmed the news, and subsequently her colleagues from the Pixies , with whom the singer had previously collaborated, shared a message on social media.
“We are devastated by Kim’s death. She was a true artist, writer, and performer who dedicated her life to the cause. She brought us all the strength of her life. We are so fortunate to have had her company with us.”
The band Muffs also wrote a tribute to her: “Besides being a brilliant songwriter, guitarist and extraordinary singer, Kim was a true force of nature (…) She was our best friend and singing her songs was an honor.”
Kim was diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) two years ago and, according to her husband Kevin Sutherland , she “died peacefully in her sleep.” He also comforted fans by saying that she “will live on with us through her music, her shared memories, and her fierce and creative spirit.”
Rest in peace, Kim Shattuck.
