Last Friday, the 1st, Killswitch Engage released the digital EP Atonement II B-Sides For Charity . Profits from downloading the project will go to the Center for Disaster Philanthropy's COVID-19 Relief Fund .
The EP includes six tracks that didn't make it onto the band's 2019 album, Atonement , as vocalist Jesse Leach in the statement below.
“These songs didn’t end up on Atonement . Choosing which songs make up an album remains a difficult process for me. While the songs that made the most sense ended up on the album, I’m still attached to all the songs I write. So, when the idea came up to release these B-sides and donate funds to charity, I was relieved by the idea and the band unanimously agreed with the cause. I’m proud that these songs are getting a release and helping other people in the process is a huge bonus.”
“These songs were written during a very difficult and uncertain period of my life. They are written from two perspectives: that of a struggling, angry, and frustrated man having a crisis of faith, life, and love, and that of a man finding the will and strength to change perspective, try again, and fight for it all. Although these songs may not have made it onto the album, they are deeply meaningful songs that I believe in with all my heart. Thinking about the lyrics, they are some of my favorite things I've written. From the very personal 'Hollow Convictions,' 'No Devotion,' and 'I Feel Alive Again,' to the battle cry songs of 'Killing of Leviathan,' 'Prophets of Treason,' and 'The Great Beyond,' which tell the story of my journey and my vision of the world around me.”
