Kiko Loureiro joined Megadeth in 2015
guitarist Kiko Loureiro was recently interviewed by Loud Trax , and spoke about his first show with the band, which took place in July 2015 in Canada.
“The stage was very slippery because it was raining. It was difficult, that show was very difficult, but it was fun. I finished recording [the tracks for the album Dystopia ], and then they said, 'Okay, let's wait for the album release to start the tour. Don't worry about learning the old songs.' But then I got a phone call or an email, something like that, 'Oh, we're going to have a single show,' so I had to learn twenty songs. I was on tour with Angra , so I had to learn the songs in airports and hotel rooms. We had three days of rehearsal. Dave Mustaine and David Ellefson have played these songs their whole lives. Me and Chris Adler … 'Three days? Seriously?'”
Mustaine told Revolver magazine that finding Loureiro “was truly mind-blowing. It was the first time since Marty Friedman joined the band that I’ve been truly intimidated as a guitarist,” he said. “He’s an incredible talent, and he comes with all these new ideas.” Mustaine also called Loureiro “the best guitarist we’ve ever had.”
