Slayer guitarist and founder Kerry King, in an interview with RVAMag, commented on the success of bands like Metallica and Iron Maiden. Check out his statement:
“We definitely considered not releasing any more music. Maybe doing what Down does and only releasing four songs before each tour, but actually, until the time we become obsolete, believe me, Slayer will continue making albums (…) We are living off our history, of course. But everyone else is too, and we keep pushing ourselves forward. I would say that Iron Maiden and Metallica, no offense, are living off past success. Metallica has been touring for years with the black album, which many people don't like. I personally like it. It's heavy as it should be. Is it Master Of Puppets? Of course not, but it's a great album. Iron Maiden, for me, is living off their first three albums. Have they made good music since then? Yes, but they haven't made great albums. I like to think that we still make great albums and as much as people want to hear 'Reign In Blood' and 'Angel Of Death', they also want to hear 'Disciple' and 'Implode'.”
