“I would say that Ritchie Blackmore's work in Deep Purple had an influence on Thrash. It's hard not to choose a Deep Purple album; if I had to, it would be Machine Head. On 'Highway Star,' it seemed like Ritchie was more interested in playing fast, playing faster tempos than Black Sabbath. Sabbath took a long time to get to something remotely fast, I think. I'd say it happened in the Dio era with Neon Nights or something like that. That's kind of Thrash to me. But Blackmore was Thrash before that. And we cover 'Highway Star.' It's probably one of the songs we play most often at shows because it's so good.”
