Ken Casey , lead singer of the American punk band Dropkick Murphys , expressed his support for Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny in the Super Bowl. This came after President Donald Trump criticized the artist's selection.
The NFL final, the main American football league in the United States, is scheduled to take place on February 8, 2026, at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
Bunny is the first Latin artist to perform during the event's intermission, and his show will be entirely in Spanish.
Casey expressed his support during an interview with Rolling Stone USA , and confessed that although he didn't know the singer before, his view changed after seeing his work in the movie Happy Gilmore 2, starring Adam Sandler.
“I had never heard Bad Bunny’s music, but after his performance in Happy Gilmore 2 (Mr. Gilmore II in Brazil) I’m going to the end for this guy. God bless him. He’s a true American.”
Ken Casey demands more attitude from punk artists
The vocalist continues to talk about how the government wants to control everything and that there are more problems in the world to worry about. For the President of the United States, having Bad Bunny as a headliner goes against the country's immigration policy, as the rapper values his Latino roots.
Casey is thinking about how punks should unite and voice their opinions against Trump's authoritarian stance:
“I don’t think, in any way, that punk should be uniformly one thing. But the punk I grew up listening to should be protesting against government abuses.”
“Obviously, something that is very dear to us is workers’ rights. At every level, Trump will turn his back on workers in favor of the elite and the rich. … So, in the name of punk rock, in the name of ordinary people, in the name of America as a whole, we feel it is our duty to speak out.”
