"I got fed up with it," Keith Richards said in an interview
Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones Rolling Stone magazine about the band's most recent tour. The duo had many highlights to point out, including the fact that the band convinced Mick Jagger to open the shows with "Street Fighting Man," their cover of Bob Dylan ," and their performance of the 1967 rarity, "She's a Rainbow."
But Richards has a more personal reason to celebrate: he has stopped drinking. “It’s been a year now,” he said. “I switched off. I was fed up with it.” He admits to still having “a glass of wine or a beer occasionally,” but that’s a big step. “It was time to stop,” he said, “like everything else. But I don’t feel any different. I don’t want to drink anymore anyway.”.
Wood, who became sober in 2010 after decades of substance abuse, couldn't be happier. He sees many changes in his friend. "It's a pleasure to work with him. Much more affectionate. He's open to new ideas. Before, he would grit his teeth and go," he said.
“It just wasn’t working anymore, man,” Wood said about his friend’s addiction. “I think the Keith we knew and loved reached a point where he was going too far. Just one more drink and things would get ugly. And he realized that,” he added.
