Kadu Pelegrini is the vocalist and main songwriter for the bands Kiara Rocks and StormSons. In the former, the artist's oldest project, the songs are written in Portuguese – and there is a challenge in writing rock music in our native language.
In an interview with The Wikimetal Happy Hour , Pelegrini commented on the differences in the songwriting process between the two bands. After confessing to having a "dictatorial" streak when writing lyrics, he spoke about the challenges of each language.
"Writing lyrics in Portuguese for rock music is a very fine line to avoid sounding cheesy or repetitive, to avoid copying the words of other people singing in Portuguese. It's really difficult," he said.
In the case of StormSons, with lyrics written in English, the band's trademark is compositions with a more complex and "intricate" vocabulary. "I don't think it's bad that people say the band is Brazilian, but [the goal is] to be able to integrate into the scene without an accent and that kind of thing," he explained.
In both processes, Kadu Pelegrini said that it takes him a long time to finish the lyrics. “I delay things a lot. I write a lyric and if I don't like it, I throw the whole thing away and start from scratch,” he said. “This system is annoying and complicated. If you study and want to do something different, of quality (…) you have to have experience.”
