Last Thursday, the 20th, a judge authorized Vitor de Paula Veloso, 5 years old, to attend KISS at Mineirão stadium in Belo Horizonte.
The boy's parents requested permission from the Juvenile Court to take him to the show, which is rated for ages 10 and up. Their reason was simple: the music of the American band helped Vitinho, a big fan, cope with his cancer treatment.
Judge José Honório de Rezende considered the importance of Kiss in the child's life. In his decision, he stated that, during his chemotherapy sessions, Vitor found solace in the rock band's art. According to the judge, children under 10 years old can attend the concert, provided there is specific judicial authorization.
The judge concluded the decision with a translation of a line from the KISS hit song, "Rock And Roll All Nite": "You say you wanna go for a spin. The party's just begun, we'll let you in.".
“In October 2020, at almost three years old, Vitor was diagnosed with Burkitt's Lymphoma, a highly aggressive cancer. (...) he was hospitalized at Felício Rocho Hospital for nine months (...) he bravely fought against cancer and became known as the 'rock boy', 'the rock baby', 'the boy who loves Kiss'”, says an excerpt from the document.
It was more than 270 days, with few discharges and many hospitalizations, and during the process the boy held on to the music of KISS and his idol Gene Simmons.
