Andreas Kisser , guitarist for Sepultura , spoke about his main musical influences that shaped his learning of the instrument. The musician revealed that Judas Priest was the main band that taught him to play heavy metal during his youth.
During an appearance on EMGtv 's Five Minutes With , Kisser highlighted the importance of the English band, which he considers "a great school." "I started listening to heavy metal very early on, when I was already learning to play classical guitar. Asked which guitar riff every beginner in the genre should know how to play, the musician joked that he doesn't "consider himself a good teacher and doesn't have the patience to teach." However, Andreas Kisser chose the iconic album British Steel (1980) as the main foundation for anyone wanting to understand the guitars of the genre.
British Steel album . It’s a great school. I mean, it has songs like ‘Breaking The Law’ and ‘Living After Midnight.’ They’re very simple riffs, but they represent everything that metal has. It’s like a heavy metal school. ‘Grinder’ was the first riff I heard on the album. And with my guitar in hand, I managed to reproduce it. It’s very simple, but at the same time it has the rhythmic part, that pose. And when you get into that pose, you enter Judas Priest mode. And that’s incredible. It’s very representative of heavy metal, and every guitarist should know that. It’s simple, it’s easy, but you have to play it yourself. Do it,” he concluded.
