Richie Faulkner, Judas Priest

Richie Faulkner, guitarist for Judas Priest, speaks about Mastodon: "Emperor Of Sand is a phenomenal album."

Members of Judas Priest cited Power Trip and Mastodon.

Rob Halford and Richie Faulkner, in an interview with British journalist Alan Ovington, spoke about whether they are inspired by any current artists:

Rob: “If you’re a real musician – what I mean by that is if you’re a musician who’s able to have a very open mind, listen to other music and keep in mind that you yourself can gain influence from other musicians while you were finding your way – that will have some real importance as a creative person. I personally, it can be anywhere, anytime, because the internet allows you to find all the different genres of Heavy Metal, I can go to YouTube and choose a band that interests me – a band like Power Trip, watch a Power Trip video and then YouTube will automatically take you to another experience. Appreciating the advantages of taking all this new music, listening to it and digesting it, carrying that influence from place to place, from band to band. It’s an amazing thing.”

Richie: “I think the more you listen, the more you have to draw from musically when you’re creating your own ideas, both subconsciously and consciously. Some things you hear and they excite you musically, and you want to capture that and recreate the same emotion in a different way. I have this thing on my phone, which is the new Judas Priest album. That’s what I’ve been listening to, literally, since we refined the mix and that sort of thing. I’ve just gone back to the vinyl experience, and I’m looking for vinyl. You never know what you’re going to find. You get a good job; you read the lyrics, you put the needle on, you experience the whole thing, it could be anything from the last Mastodon album, the Emperor Of Sand album, which I think is phenomenal. They really embodied that whole thing – the artwork, the packaging, the vinyl experience. It could go back to Elvis [Presley] or the [Rolling] Stones, or [Jimi] Hendrix. There’s a vast range of things that I personally listen to and that inspire me.” "I inspire."
