Judas Priest guitarist Richie Faulkner revealed during an interview with The Entertainment Outlet the progress of the band's new album, the successor to 2018's Firepower
Faulkner explained (via Blabbermouth ) that after overcoming the first obstacle of recording, the quarantine the band was in, and the second, the tour they finally managed to reschedule, the group needed to find a solution. The members then began recording the album little by little during the breaks they found between shows.
“So we finished the drums, we have the guitars ready, the bass ready. I think the main thing we have to do now is the vocals. Then we have the US tour coming up, so Rob [ Halford , vocals] has to protect and use his voice sparingly. So maybe after that. I mean, we have [dates] in the US and we have South America, which takes us until December. So maybe in the New Year we can start working on the vocals.”
In the interview, the guitarist also spoke about when fans can expect the next album. “It’s always difficult to talk about deadlines because, as we know, things change. But Rob always says, ‘It’s over when it’s over.’ There’s no point in rushing anything at this point in the band’s career. But it’s getting there – we’re working on it and it’s getting there. And we’re using the time we have.”
“The way things are today, we can do this [the recording] in a much more economical way. So, we're making the technology work and we're doing everything that works for us, so that we can do it in the best way possible, so that we can release it when we can. But it will be done when it's done.”
Regarding the album's sound, Faulkner said it won't be similar to Firepower , and the group is excited to release the work and see what the fans think. The new album, like its predecessor, will be produced by Andy Sneap.
