Josh Klinghoffer revealed to the 5 Notas that the Red Hot Chili Peppers "created cooler songs" with him in the band. The guitarist was part of the group between 2009 and 2019, working on the projects I'm With You (2011) and The Getaway (2016).

“Yes, I had to listen to the new albums. I couldn’t help but do it because I was hearing some things about them, so I listened. Actually, I never finished listening to the second album they released. I tried to listen to it all once before a plane trip and got to, maybe, the ninth song, and I don’t think I ever heard the rest,” the musician said on March 30th (transcription via Loudwire ).

"It's difficult simply because I honestly think we were creating better songs. I would have loved for the songs to have been finished. You know, I never want to sound negative when talking about someone making music, but I was shocked when I heard their new album."

The tracks the guitarist is referring to are from the new albums Unlimited Love (2022) and Return of the Dream Canteen (2022), which mark John Frusciante 's return .

Currently, Josh Klinghoffer is Jane's Addiction on tour due to Dave Navarro 's absence for health reasons .
