Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, now a touring member of Pearl Jam , avoided a possible prison sentence after reaching a plea deal in his vehicular manslaughter case.

Klinghoffer appeared in court in Alhambra, California, in the United States last Wednesday, the 28th. The musician pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter (without gross negligence) for the accident that killed 47-year-old pedestrian Israel Sanchez , and was sentenced to 1 year of probation and 60 days of community service.

During the trial, the prosecutor warned Klinghoffer that if he “continued to drive distracted and, as a result of his driving, someone was killed,” the artist could be “charged with murder,” according to Louder .

Regarding the accident that killed Israel Sanchez

Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer faced a wrongful death and negligence lawsuit following a fatal accident in Alhambra, California, on March 18.

The family of Israel Sanchez, who died after being hit by a car, claims that the musician was on the phone and driving an SUV recklessly at the time of the accident.

According to reports from Variety  and TMZ , Klinghoffer was making a left turn when he struck Sanchez. The man was crossing the street in a marked pedestrian crosswalk. Sanchez was taken to the hospital but did not survive his injuries.
