Josh Homme reveals that Lemmy Kilmister wanted to be part of the Desert Sessions project.

According to the Queens of the Stone Age vocalist, Lemmy had already accepted the proposal

Josh Homme , from Queens of the Stone Age , recently released volumes 11 and 12 of the Desert Sessions , a collective of musicians formed by Billy Gibbons ( ZZ Top ), Jake Shears ( Scissor Sisters ) and others.

During an interview with the LA Times , the vocalist revealed that he intended to have a famous artist join the project: Lemmy Kilmister , the legendary leader of Motörhead . According to Homme, Kilmister had already agreed to participate in the project alongside Gibbons, but unfortunately passed away before it could begin.

Lemmy passed away in December 2015, and the collective's sessions only began the following year, after the release of the album Post Pop Depression , a collaboration between Homme and Iggy Pop . “I really need to push myself when I feel something that strong. It was an opportunity to play cupid [between musicians] and to witness and capture this romantic affair.”

At the time of Lemmy's death, Homme shared a message on Queens of the Stone Age's social media lamenting the loss. Read an excerpt below.

“I’m upset that Lem is dead. This sucks. One of the last real rock and roll motherfuckers is gone and I miss him. He was true to himself without a doubt. He knew there was no other way. A genuine leader, no joke, sharp-tongued, hard-lived, elegant, hilarious and witty. He didn’t give a damn about your peanut butter, your anonymous opinion in the comments section or your fragile sensibilities.”
