In a new episode of the Breaking Absolutes Dream Theater keyboardist Jordan Rudess spoke with host Peter Orullian and revealed the name of the musician (living or dead) he would most like to play with: Jimi Hendrix .

Rudess justified his response by saying that Hendrix “was the master of being cool” and went on to praise the guitarist's personality. “Most guitarists can play better than Jimi Hendrix these days because the art of guitar playing has evolved,” said the keyboardist. “But Hendrix exuded a cool attitude, he literally had LSD dripping from him or whatever. He was the coolest of them all.”

Dream Theater's keyboardist also revealed that he always thinks of the rock legend during his solo moments, trying to incorporate some of Hendrix's stage presence and posture. Rudess also commented that in his most recent work, he has tried to balance some of the "spontaneity and energy" with a bit more technique and structure, also drawing inspiration from his bandmate John Petrucci.
