Dream Theater's new album still doesn't have a release date.
Jordan Rudess, keyboardist for the progressive metal band Dream Theater, spoke about the band's upcoming album in an interview with Metal Wani.
“I think we’re interested in just putting our ideas together and finding something that we feel is really representative of who we are. Yeah, I think maybe a little bit on the heavier side. Certainly nothing like a concept album, since we already did The Astonishing and we had a lot of fun, and it was a wonderful and creative project. Now I think maybe [we’ll be] going back a little more to the roots, and that probably involves a harder musical approach, I think, to the sound, but never losing sight of the melody. Dream Theater is Dream Theater – it’s always a mix of many different things, but all I can say about it at this point is, we want to figure out what the core of who we are and what the music is about is and just present that.”
“The Images and Words tour was significant for us. And it was great for the fans. It was an exciting show. You could see the energy on the fans' faces. And since we're looking forward to the next album, having done that tour and experienced the magic of that record, yes, I think that influences us and brings us a little closer to our roots, to the foundation of what the band was in those days and what really made the biggest statement about who Dream Theater is. So it's cool that we did that. And now, around May or June, we're going into the studio and really starting to put something else together – the next album – and it's going to be a lot of fun.”
