Acclaimed singer, songwriter, and producer Jonathan Wilson released the single “Charlie Parker” in the second week of June and announced details of his new album, Eat the Worm . The album will be released on September 8th by BMG and is already available for pre-order here .
Following the release of the first single, “Marzipan,” in March, the latest track from the upcoming project is “ Charlie Parker ” The song is accompanied by a stunning video created by Wilson’s wife, artist Andrea Nakhla , using stable diffusion Artificial Intelligence technology.
“‘Charlie Parker’ is one of my favorite songs from Eat the Worm . It’s a fantastic, fictional flight of fancy,” says Wilson about the song, which draws on experiences in Boston in the 80s, North Carolina in the early 90s, and a European jazz festival in the early 2000s.
“It also touches on the highs and lows of my life over the last decade as a touring musician and much more,” he continues. “It’s full of strings, brass instruments, guitars, and some bebop elements, hence the name. In a way, ‘Charlie Parker’ encompasses everything the new album represents: adventure, loyalty, and fun. We created another incredibly mind-blowing AI video to go with it, and I think it perfectly captures the mood of the song.”
As he did on Eat the Worm , Wilson produced and played most of the instruments on “Charlie Parker,” including guitar, piano, drums, and keyboards. Jake Blanton ( The Killers ) played bass, while the string and horn sections feature renowned musicians such as CJ Camerieri ( Bon Iver ), Rita Andrade ( Kanye West ), Wynton Grant ( Miley Cyrus , Hans Zimmer ), and Paul Cartwright ( Lana Del Rey , Mary J. Blige ).
