Jonathan Davis , frontman of Korn , commented on bassist Fieldy's departure in a conversation with Kerrang!
In June, Fieldy announced he was taking a break from the band because he was "dealing with personal issues that caused him to relapse into bad habits.".
During the interview (via Loudersound ), Davis revealed that he believes his friend and colleague isn't ready to return yet. He stated: “I love him; he’s my brother. But I saw someone I care about die [the singer’s ex-wife, Deven , died of an accidental overdose in 2018] and I’m not going to do that again. I refuse [to do that]. I’ll feel guilty for the rest of my fucking life because of it. I tried my best, but maybe if I had been a little stronger, the outcome would have been different. I pray that he can figure this out and get better and come back and be a big part of this band again.”
“Whenever I’m happy, there’s always something negative that comes along and takes that away from me. Darkness, for me, has been a very familiar place. It’s comfortable for me. But now I’m going through this new life, having all that darkness gone, I don’t know how to react to it and I don’t know what to do.”
He concluded by saying: “Leaving this place is difficult for me. I always want to go back because it’s familiar, but I have to let it go. I’m no longer being tortured. I had to free myself from that place – it would kill me if I stayed there forever.”
It's worth remembering that Korn announced the album Requiem for February 4th and released the first single from the project, "Start The Healing". Fieldy played on the album's recordings, but hasn't appeared in Korn's promotional photos.
