Jon Schaffer , guitarist and founder of the band Iced Earth , and members of the extremist groups Oath Keepers and Proud Boys are being prosecuted by Karl Racine , Attorney General for the District of Columbia, in Washington, D.C., USA.

According to a news report published by CNN Politics , the lawsuit aims to recover the money that the city of Washington spent defending the United States Capitol during the attack on January 6th.

The lawsuit was filed last Tuesday, the 14th, in federal court in Washington and accuses 31 members of extremist groups of "conspiring to terrorize the district," describing their actions as "a coordinated act of domestic terrorism."

In the document, which is over 80 pages long, Schaffer is described as "a founding and lifetime member of the Oath Keepers".

The Capitol invasion occurred in January when supporters of the former US president believed the presidential election was rigged, a claim that has not been proven to this day. They stormed the building, leading to several arrests.

Following Schaffer's arrest, members of Iced Earth announced their departure from the band, a decision also made by Hansi Kürsch , who was his colleague in Demons and Wizards.
