Jon Schaffer pleaded guilty to two of the six charges he faces following the invasion of the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, as part of a protest against the presidential election results that saw Joe Biden declared the winner. The Iced Earth has been in jail since January 17th, when he turned himself in to authorities.

Blabbermouth article , Schaffer pleaded guilty to charges of obstructing official proceedings at the Capitol and trespassing on restricted areas of the Capitol while carrying a dangerous weapon. The first crime carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, while the second can carry a sentence of up to 10 years.

According to the American press, Schaffer is expected to sign a cooperation agreement with the authorities, which should reduce his sentence. More information about the case is expected to be released soon.

The musician had been charged with six crimes in total, including knowingly participating in an act of physical violence in a restricted area and violent and disorderly invasion of the Capitol. After the invasion, three members of Iced Earth left the band, which is led by Schaffer: vocalist Stu Block , bassist Luke Appleton , and guitarist Jake Dreyer. The aforementioned Kürsch also announced that he had left Demons & Wizards. The bands are no longer listed on the Century Media record label website, indicating that they may have lost their contracts with the company.
