Jon Oliva, of Savatage, is arrested for cocaine possession and drunk driving

The musician was involved in a car accident and was arrested for driving under the influence of substances

Jon Oliva , founder and vocalist of Savatage , was arrested earlier last week for driving under the influence and possession of cocaine. The 62-year-old musician was involved in an early morning accident where he crashed his car into a tree.

The official report on Oliva's arrest states that the singer was being treated in the emergency room when the police officer in question arrived at the scene of the accident, finding the musician's car with the front "severely damaged" and the passenger door "torn off" due to the collision.

The officer then described finding two empty vodka bottles and a small plastic bag containing a white substance that was tested and identified as cocaine. Upon questioning Jon Oliva, the musician admitted to drinking several shots of vodka with orange juice before driving and claimed to have received the cocaine as a birthday gift, repeatedly admitting that the substance was his. Jon Oliva's home was later searched, and further traces of a white substance were found in a second plastic bag. The singer was arrested and released less than 24 hours later on bail and is doing well. More information can be found on the official Florida Department of Justice website.
