Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora haven't spoken, even after filming the series Thank You Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story , about the band's history.
Sambora left the band abruptly in April 2013, just hours before Bon Jovi was due to perform in Calgary, citing personal problems.
As a solution to this problem, Phil X replaced the guitarist during the tour and in 2016 became an official member of the band.
Commenting on the whole situation, Bon Jovi said that although he and Sambora have no problems, there is no communication between the two.
“We don’t keep in touch because he’s no longer with the organization,” the vocalist explained. “It doesn’t mean there’s no love forever, but it’s been 11 years since he simply showed up. And there were emotional issues he was dealing with as a single father, and there were substance abuse issues that, you know… Phil X had to show up once, and then Phil X had to show up again. And then, again, we have a show to do that night. What are we going to do?” (via Ultimate Classic Rock )
Documentary about Bon Jovi
The series Thank You Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story, directed by Gotham Chopra, has four episodes and will premiere on April 26th on Hulu in the US. In Latin America, it will later be available on Star+ and Disney+ .
The documentary features various past members of Bon Jovi and explores the band's entire history, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary, including personal videos, unreleased demos, and photos never before seen by the public.
Although there are hints about what will be in the series, Jon hasn't yet seen the final result and revealed that the interviews were done separately. Richie Sambora did his part in London, and therefore there was no contact between him and Jon Bon Jovi behind the scenes.
