Johnny Winter dies at age 70

Guitarist is a Blues legend

Blues legend Johnny Winter passed away yesterday, July 16th, in a hotel room in Zurich, Switzerland. The cause of death has not yet been released. Considered one of the greatest guitarists in the world, Winter had been in frail health for some time.

Winter was about to release a solo album, "Step Back," scheduled for release on September 2nd. The guitarist's latest work features collaborations with Eric Clapton, Ben Harper, Billy Gibbons, Joe Bonamassa, Leslie West, Joe Perry, and Brian Setzer.

Johnny Winter first became known as part of a trio with bassist Tommy Shannon and drummer Uncle John Turner. In 1969 he released his debut album, "The Progressive Blues Experiment". In 1977, he produced Muddy Waters' album "Hard Again", which received several Grammy nominations. In 1988, Johnny Winter was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame.
