A panel discussion about the importance of punk turned into a major argument between the musicians.
Last week, several icons gathered for a panel discussion for the documentary Punk , produced by John Varvatos Sex Pistols vocalist John Lydon , also known as Johnny Rotten , Henry Rollins of Black Flag , and Marky of the Ramones.
During the conversation, Rotten took the opportunity to irritate the other musicians, starting with Rollins: “You said silly things and excellent things too.” Rollins replied: “And you called us a bunch of rich kids. We wanted to rip your ears off.” Rotten retorted, saying he didn't like Black Flag's music because it was “boring.”
Lydon then attacked Marky Ramone, pointing out that the drummer is not one of the original members of the New York punk band. In response, Marky expressed his opinion that Sid Vicious was the true star of the Sex Pistols.
“He was a star for fake idiots like you. Enjoy your drugs and have a good death,” said the Sex Pistols vocalist. “Punk, for me, was something positive, positive proof that we could change our lives with music, with truthful lyrics and attacks on the political system. This imbecile is a drug addict.”
In the video below, you can see the moment when the conversation heats up and Rotten gets up from his chair to confront Marky.
