Johnny Monster releases his new single "Os Pássaros" today, the 4th, via ForMusic Records. The track is featured on the album A Nova Era Do Só Você , which will be released later in 2023.
“The song is a seven-minute epic folk rock piece, with many layers of instruments, like a meeting between Led Zeppelin and Almir Satter ,” says the artist. “The 12-string guitar is noticeable in the mix. It wanders through diverse soundscapes, with a hypnotic groove, a Radiohead-esque , and contemplative and escapist lyrics, alluding to the birds that sing in the city as soon as dawn breaks.”
“Os Pássaros” features Thiago Moretti (violin), Helena Hennemann (backing vocals), Júlio Pelloso (cello), Guga Almeida (drums), and Carlos Eduardo Freitas (bass). The latter is also responsible for the song's production.
Johnny's next album has “a different 'Brazilian psychedelic folk country rock' style compared to his other projects, where the tracks had varied directions, blending styles. This time, it's almost like a 'concept' album; all the songs truly complement each other.” The New Era of Só Você began to take shape during the difficult political and pandemic landscape of 2020. “The work has a very hopeful message and a strength and cohesion that I've never felt before,” reveals Monster. “I believe maturity has arrived, both in the songs and in the lyrics and style, returning to my songwriting, troubadour side.”
The project's sound is heavily influenced by the 60s and 70s and by artists such as the Beach Boys , Buffalo Springfield , Velvet Underground , Kevin Morby , The Coral , and more. The ten unreleased tracks were thus recorded with minimal editing, using multiple string arrangements and layers of acoustic and electric guitars that create a vintage feel.
