In 2020, Johnny Monster celebrated 11 years of his solo career and released the album Winter Solstice Reloaded to commemorate the occasion. This Friday, the 23rd, the musician is back with his new single "Veneno," which will be featured on his upcoming album, scheduled for release later in 2021 via ForMusic Records. Listen to the new song on your preferred digital platform.

“Veneno” features Clemente Nascimento and is a track with a seventies groove that deals with current issues, such as the use of social media to spread hate and the phenomenon of cancel culture. “The lyrics talk about the saturation of opinions we experience with social media, how much everyone talks, but few are heard,” says Monster in a statement. “Many judgments, cancellations, and absolute truths. [The song] addresses this, how it’s necessary not to be too swayed by the opinions of others.”

Regarding the songwriting process, Monster recalled: “The demo started at the end of 2019, and we resumed in May and June of 2020. It was a very intense process; this time, producer Michel Kuaker something grand. The track has many layers, with several cool collaborations from great musicians and the great Clemente Nascimento from Inocentes sharing vocals with me. The drums, played by Bruno Hack , were done remotely due to the pandemic, as were other collaborations on the album.”

Regarding his upcoming album, Johnny Monster has opened up space for significant collaborations and promises to deliver the most diverse album of his career to date. “We’ll have actor Eriberto Leão singing with me on a track about flying saucers, and the lovely Bianca Jhordão , from Leela, will also participate, singing and playing theremin on a track. In addition, there are great musicians involved in the project and some partners co-writing some of the songs,” he revealed.
