John Paul Jones , former bassist of Led Zeppelin , joined 17 other musicians from around the world to re-record the song "When the Levee Breaks." The track was originally recorded in 1929 by Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie , until Led Zeppelin made their own version in 1971.
The 2022 version features contributions from musicians such as drummer Stephen Perkins from Jane's Addiction , the duo Derek Truck and Susan Tedeschi , Congolese musician Mermans Mosengo , Nigerian percussionist Sikiru Adepoju , and more.
According to NME , this rendition of "When the Levee Breaks" was recorded to raise funds for the charity project Playing for Change . All the money raised will go to organizations such as Conservation International , American Rivers , WWF , Reverb Playing for Change Foundation itself .
