On October 9, 2024, the legendary artist John Lennon would have turned 84. To commemorate this date, the artist's team released a box set containing meditation remixes of his 1973 song "Mind Games." In addition to the physical version, a digital version is also available for streaming .
The nine alternative versions of the track emerged from a partnership with the Lumenate , whose goal is to help its users meditate. These songs have been exclusively available on the platform since August, when Sean Ono Lennon , the musician's son, announced the project. Now, however, the tracks are available to all fans.
Another new feature is that this project will also have a physical version: a box set. It includes 3 LPs pressed on 180-gram crystal-clear vinyl, packaged in a mirrored cardboard sleeve. The B-side of the third vinyl in the set includes nine exclusive 1.8-second mantras that play continuously in the run-out , creating infinite loops through the tracks. All of this will be available for purchase starting October 11th; you can pre-order here .
Regarding the meditation versions of Mind Games
According to the artist's team , the new mixes "create their own space, while remaining firmly rooted and authentic to John Lennon's original recording of the song." The songs, however, have undergone changes in length and sound – and some now last more than 33 minutes.
Furthermore, four of the tracks are presented as “binaural versions, each focusing on different types of brainwaves: Beta, Delta, Gamma, and Theta.” Titled Mind , Space , Spirit , and Love , each features a binaural beat , that is, “an auditory illusion created within the brain when the left and right ears hear two slightly different frequencies” and can “activate different brain patterns for scientifically proven therapeutic effects,” according to Lennon’s website.
