John Dolmayan paid tribute to Cão Orelha , who was tortured by teenagers in Florianópolis (SC).

The drummer from System of a Down used his Instagram profile to speak out about the cruel death of the community dog. He posted a photo of the dog and wrote that anger at the crime is understandable, but argued that those responsible should learn compassion and respect. [via Rolling Stone ]

"There is a lot of (justified) anger directed at the perpetrators of this horrific crime against this beloved dog. The anger is understandable. I would advise the parents of these teenagers to make their children atone for their mistakes, rather than hiding them internationally. My advice is to teach them compassion, both in the actions taken against them and in the punishment they receive.". 

Anger is justified, but the way to punish someone who lacks empathy is by teaching them empathy and respect. They made a terrible choice; being human means redeeming oneself for it. The good they can do can, in some way, compensate for the evil. No one is beyond redemption

The case of the dog Orelha

Orelha was a community dog ​​cared for by residents and shopkeepers in an upscale area of ​​Florianópolis and was brutally attacked on January 4th, according to the Civil Police. Found in serious condition, the animal was rescued and taken to a veterinary clinic, but did not survive its injuries and had to be euthanized the following day [via g1 ].

Four teenagers have been identified as suspects in the crime, two of whom have already been the subject of police action, while the others are out of the country. In addition, three adults connected to the youths have been indicted for allegedly intimidating a witness considered crucial to the progress of the investigation.

The incident, which moved residents and gained widespread attention in Brazil, is now receiving even more international attention following Dolmayan's tribute.
