System Of A Down drummer John Dolmayan admitted that he didn't want the band to have gone on hiatus.
In an interview with Richard Allan on Action Figures , the musician comments, “I never wanted System [Of A Down] to go on hiatus. I think it was a disastrous move for us because we never reached our peak. I feel there’s still a lot of music in us. And even though the band is as big as it is, we’re huge internationally and here in the United States, I think we could be the biggest band in the world. Why not achieve that if we have the potential?”
Regarding the possibility of a new album, the drummer says, “It doesn’t mean we can’t [produce a new album] yet, but it’s unlikely, because if you can’t leave your ego out of it, you have to take off your cloak, your ego, and leave it here, and find a place and work together, and do what’s best for the band. And if nobody is thinking about what’s best for the band, then there’s no choice. The definition of a band is altruism. That’s what a society is, isn’t it? We’re all thinking, like, together we can do something great. Alone, maybe we won’t even survive.”
“So, for me, there’s a lot of sadness associated with that,” he continues. “Because Scars On Broadway Daron Malakian ’s solo project Serj [Tankian] ’s solo projects are good, but nothing compares to System. When we stop, one more album, you’re talking about a different conversation.”
