Guitarist John 5 revealed during an interview on the podcast No Fuckin' Regrets With Robb Flynn , with the Machine Head , that the only time he ever drank in his life was with the late Pantera , Dimebag Darrell, 's album Mechanical Animals .
John 5 recounted that he was going to rest before the next show and Dimebag called him over saying, “I’m not leaving here until we have another shot, call 5, he has to have one.” Then they told Dimebag that John didn’t drink, but he said, “I’m not leaving here until he comes here and has a shot.”.
“I had to get up, and it was that Black Tooth Grin [Dimebag's drink, named after the Megadeth ,” made with Seagram's 7 whiskey and Crown Royal whiskey with ice and Coca-Cola]. I drank it all and felt like I'd been stabbed in the stomach with a rusty knife, but that was the only time I ever drank.”
