Drummer talks about leaving Slipknot
Former Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison, who is featured on the cover of this month's Metal Hammer, has spoken directly for the first time about his departure from the band. According to the drummer, the way Slipknot handled his exit was "cowardly."
Joey Jordison revealed last week that he suffers from transverse myelitis, a degenerative neurological disease. Towards the end of his career with the band, the drummer had to be carried onto the stage because the disease had spread to his legs .
In the interview, Jordison says that his dismissal from Slipknot happened because the band believed his health condition was a consequence of alcohol abuse.
“No band meeting? None. Anything from management? No, nothing. All I got was a stupid email saying I was out of the band I had given everything to create. That's exactly how it happened and it hurt. I didn't deserve that shit after everything I did and everything I went through.”
He continues: “They were confused by my health situation, and obviously I didn’t know what it was at first either. They thought I was crazy on drugs, but I wasn’t at all.”
I went through so much with these guys and I love them very much. What hurt was the way things happened, it wasn't right. That's all I wanted to say. The way they did it was cowardly.
In the same interview, however, Jordison says that if the opportunity arose, he would like to reunite with his former colleagues .
“Honestly, I’m not being dramatic, but if it were considered, what I would like is for us to get together. I would like to see them, hug them, and feel that energy we had when we were young and all that. They are my brothers. We would hug each other and do everything we used to do. We used to stay up all night planning things we wanted to do. That’s how I would like it. But it would have to be in person. If it happened, it would be incredible, but only time will tell.”
