Slipknot drummer , Joey Jordison , has filed a lawsuit against the band, alleging they are attempting to profit from the former member's death and are wrongfully taking possession of his personal belongings.
Separated since 2013, Jordison passed away in 2021 at the age of 46. The disagreement between the members began during negotiations for the drummer's departure, when Joey asked his former bandmates in 2015 to not only buy his share of the Slipknot Partnership property, but also to return all personal items in his possession, including musical instruments and equipment.
According to Blabbermouth , the legal proceedings began in mid-June 2023 , where Jordison's representatives alleged that the nu metal band attempted to profit from the former drummer's name and reputation, primarily to promote their latest album, The End, So Far Knotfest exhibition museums .
The legal defense of Joey Jordison's estate succession proceedings was handled by Steamroller LLC, located in Portland, Oregon, continuing the legal battle on September 17th before the Los Angeles County Superior Court. On the same day, a request to dismiss the case was made based on a settlement proposal, the details of which were not disclosed ( via Blabbermouth ), bringing the dispute to an end.
Joey Jordison was a member of Slipknot from 1995 until the end of 2013, remaining behind the production and drum lines for almost 20 years. After fan speculation, in early 2014, the drummer spoke out through his social media , stating that he had been fired: "This band has been my life for over 18 years, I would never abandon it."
Joey Jordison and the feud with Slipknot
The legal dispute was specifically directed at Corey Taylor and Michael Shawn “Clown” Crahan, beginning in the same year the drummer was fired.
As duly mentioned in the proceedings, in 2013, the vocalist, along with Crahan, entered into an agreement with Jordison that was never fulfilled, containing a list of broad categories of items that were in his possession and that were supposedly to be returned.
The prosecution alleges that their relationship began to deteriorate as early as 2010, when Jordison started showing signs of declining health, later being diagnosed with acute transverse myelitis. Joey Jordison's illness was neurological in origin and progressed to the point where he lost the use of his left leg.
In 2013, according to the former drummer's representatives in the lawsuit, Jordison's medical condition worsened, and even though they were aware of his limitations, Crahan and Taylor abruptly and insensitively dismissed him via email.
Following persistent press inquiries, Corey Taylor stated in 2014 that he could not provide further details due to legal reasons, but that the separation occurred because Jordison and the band "were following different paths."
Two years later, Joey founded the death metal supergroup Sinsaenum , where he completed an international tour alongside Attila Csihar (vocals), Sean Zitarsky (keyboards), Frédéric Leclercq (bass), Stéphane Buriez (guitar), and Heimoth (bass). This was Jordison's last project before his death on July 26, 2021.
