Slipknot is a band that scares many newcomers because of their sound and the style of its members.

However, they also make great ballads, and it's about one of them that we're going to talk about today, the song "Snuff".

This is one of those songs that's a real gut punch, and the band's vocalist, Corey Taylor, always does it perfectly.

Joey Jordison , the band's drummer at the time, said that Corey didn't write this song for Slipknot , but rather to release in his solo career.

However, Joey liked the lyrics and their meaning, and without Corey knowing, he recorded a drum line for the song. The next day, when Corey heard the result, he started to cry.

This song is about the loss of a love, about all the phases of pain, grief, longing, and overcoming.

It's a self-explanatory song, and it actually happened to Corey , with someone he liked who ended up disappointing him.

“Bury all your secrets in my skin […]
The air around me still feels like a cage
And love is just camouflage.”

So if you love me, let me go […]
Surrender me to my fate […]
I don’t deserve to have you.”

He lost his beloved, but he doesn’t even know why, yet he takes responsibility and all the blame.

And he goes through grief, begging that if she loves him, she should let him go, leaving him trapped with his conflicts.

“I couldn’t face a life without your light
But all of that was torn apart
When you refused to fight […]
I had to lose hope to let you go.”

Here is an attempt at overcoming, where he sees no other way to move forward except by losing hope and understanding that there is no turning back.

“You never needed anyone’s help […]
You ran away, you’re all the same […]
If you still care, never let me know.”

Even after getting over it, he still harbors resentment over what happened, because apparently she only used him, and then, when he got involved with someone else, she discarded him and moved on.
