Since Eddie Van Halen , there has been much talk about the possibility of a tribute tour to the legendary guitarist and Van Halen . Even his son, Wolfgang Van Halen , has shown himself to be enthusiastic about the idea , but little had been said about it until recently.
In an interview released a few days ago , bassist Jason Newsted revealed that Alex Van Halen had contacted him and Joe Satriani about six months ago to discuss a possible Van Halen tour. According to Newsted, the plan didn't go ahead, but Joe Satriani broke his silence and spoke about the behind-the-scenes details of the potential show.
According to Satriani, he has been in contact with Alex Van Halen and David Lee Roth “for about a year,” discussing a possible tribute to Eddie and Van Halen in general. “For me, it was daunting to think about doing something like that, but I realized it would be a project I would love. I was honored to accept the challenge,” he commented.
The guitarist also seemed surprised and a little acerbic that Jason Newsted had brought the matter to the public, since nothing had been officially confirmed. “These things are always happening in the music industry and the general rule is to keep quiet because sometimes it doesn’t work out [laughs],” he said. “So we were all very shocked that Jason spoke about it openly because we all took a vow of silence [laughs].”
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the plans for the potential show, Joe Satriani assured fans that "if it happens," the musicians will put on "the best show ever for the fans" in order to celebrate not only Eddie Van Halen's legacy, but the band's as a whole. Will we finally see it happen?
