Joe Perry , guitarist for Aerosmith , has announced a new solo album titled Sweetzerland Manifesto MKII, the successor to Sweetzerland Manifesto (2018).
To celebrate the announcement of the album, which will be released on May 26th, Perry released the first single from the project. “Fortunate One” features Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes and has a blues rock sound. The song also features Robert Deleo of Stone Temple Pilots on bass, continuing the tradition of including guest artists on the album Sweetzerland Manifesto.
“I’m very excited to release this song – it wasn’t written when the first version of Sweetzerland Manifesto ,” Perry commented in a press statement. “My old friend Chris Robinson from the Black Crowes sang on the song and he nailed it! We started in Los Angeles, recorded in London and Chris sang… and BANG!! It doesn’t get any better than that!!! I’m really proud of this song.”
The single “Fortunate One” is one of ten songs on Sweetzerland Manifesto MKII, with four tracks being alternative versions of songs from the first album. New versions of the songs feature vocals from Robin Zander of Cheap Trick , David Johansen of the New York Dolls , and Terry Reid . Zander also reprises his participation with the new song “Suck It Up”. Gary Cherone of Extreme and Van Halen also contributes to the project with “Quake”.
In the statement, Perry explained that he had many songs ready with The Hollywood Vampires , Aerosmith, with production during the COVID-19 quarantine and more. "Music kept me going," he said.
Much of the material for the two Sweetzerland Manifesto films was written during a creative period at the home of fellow Hollywood Vampires star Johnny Depp in 2017. Depp is credited as an executive producer along with producer Jack Douglas , Bruce Witkin , and Perry's sons, Tony and Roman .
